Writing a disaster plan with your family is essential in preparing for any type of storm that may strike. Talk with your kids about where to meet, what to do, and how to get into contact with each other in case of a disaster.
Write a family disaster plan that includes:
Where the family should meet in the event of emergencies
A communication plan where family members can check in if there is an emergency
A plan in place for the care of the elderly/disabled
A plan for the care of pets
Safe places in and around your home for each kind of disaster (fire, tornado, earthquake, etc.)
Location of and how to use your utility shut-offs
Location of vital records and emergency numbers
An inventory of your home and property in case of insurance (Keep outside of your home)
