Prepare for the next storm by having a Storm Kit ready to go! Here are a few recommended items to have on hand:
- Water: fill bathtubs and containers with water for washing and flushing. Stock up on bottled water for drinking.
- Food: at least enough for 3 to 7 days. Stock up on non-perishable food, juices, and snacks....
- Non-electric can opener, cooking tools, paper plates, and plastic utensils.
- Blankets, pillows, and seasonal clothing
- First aid kit and any necessary over-the-counter or prescription medications.
- Special items for infants or the elderly.
- Toiletries, hygiene items, moisture wipes.
- Flashlights and batteries.
- Radio and clock (battery-operated). Consider getting a weather radio.
- Telephone: fully charged mobile phone with extra batteries, mobile charger, and a traditional (NOT cordless) landline phone.
- Emergency numbers
- Cash and credit cards
- Keys
- Important documents: in a waterproof container. These could include insurance cards, medical records, bank account numbers, Social Security cards, etc. Keep a second set of copied documents in another safe place that you could access.
- Tools: duct tape, screw drivers, safety goggles, etc.
- Vehicle fuel tanks filled
- Pet care items
- Optional items:
- Garbage bags and sanitizing towels
- Whistles
- Entertainment items (books and games for children)
