Storm Kit

Prepare for the next storm by having a Storm Kit ready to go! Here are a few recommended items to have on hand:

  • Water—fill bathtubs and containers with water for washing and flushing. Stock up on bottled water for drinking.

  • Food—at least enough for 3 to 7 days. Stock up on non-perishable food, juices, and snacks....

  • Non-electric can opener, cooking tools, paper plates and plastic utensils.

  • Blankets, pillows, and seasonal clothing

  • First aid kit and any necessary over-the-counter or prescription medications.

  • Special items for infants or the elderly.

  • Toiletries, hygiene items, moisture wipes.

  • Flashlights and batteries.

  • Radio and clock (battery operated). Consider getting a weather radio.

  • Telephone—fully charged mobile phone with extra batteries, mobile charger, and a traditional (NOT cordless) landline phone .

  • Emergency numbers

  • Cash and credit cards

  • Keys

  • Important documents—in waterproof container. These could include insurance cards, medical records, bank account numbers, Social Security cards, etc. Keep a second set of copied documents in another safe place that you could access.

  • Tools—duct tape, screw drivers, safety goggles, etc.

  • Vehicle fuel tanks filled

  • Pet care items

Optional items:

  • Garbage bags and sanitizing towels

  • Whistles

  • Entertainment items (books and games for children)
